hits are at New Theatre!
If the spiraling cost of airfare and lodging have you rethinking a trip to Broadway, we¹ve got some good news for you. New Theatre is opening its 17th season with a show that is currently on Broadway and a world premiere that is on its way.
Our season opener is THE LAST ROMANCE, a romantic comedy that stars New Theatre favorite Marion Ross, Mrs. C from TV's HAPPY DAYS! It's written by renowned Broadway playwright Joe DiPietro. When Joe saw Marion and her hubby Paul Michael in our production of his comedy OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS last season, he fell in love with them both. 3 November 2, is the world premiere. Several notable Broadway producers will be in KC during the run to check the show and discuss a move to New York. And don't miss DiPietro's Broadway musical hit ALL SHOOK UP making its KC debut at New Theatre June 26-August 3. This wildly funny musical features the greatest hits of Elvis Presley!
Following on the heels of THE LAST ROMANCE is the outrageous comedy BOEING-BOEING, November 5 January 25, 2009. This non-stop laugh-fest set in the `60s tracks a successful architect simultaneously engaged to three stewardesses all unbeknownst to each other. His housekeeper (Marla Gibbs, Florence from THE JEFFERSONS) reluctantly plays air traffic controller as the three girls fly in and out of his swanky bachelor pad. The comedy takes off the runway when schedules change, flights are delayed and chaos ensues.
London's Daily Telegraph said of the show, I was in danger of falling out of my seat with helpless laughter, and so was everyone else! It becomes impossible to stop laughing!² BOEING-BOEING lands on Broadway this spring.
